ESSENTIALLY WHAT WE DIDN'T WANNA DO WAS INSTALL STOP SIGNS, JUST THAT THE INTERSECTION REQUESTED AND IT WAS GONNA CREATE CONFUSION TO THE REST OF THE MOTORIST WHERE IF YOU'RE DRIVING DOWN ONE STREET, YEP, THERE'S STOP SIGNS.
SUDDENLY YOU ENTER INTERSECTIONS WHERE THERE ARE NO STOP SIGNS.
SO WE JUMPED OUT ONE BLOCK AROUND AND SEE DID THAT MAKE SENSE? IT KIND OF EVENTUALLY LED TO THIS.
UM, AND IT'S A TOTAL OF 32 STOP SIGNS AS YOU MENTIONED.

UM, THEN WE HAD THE TEXT AMENDMENT, UH, FOR THE ULDC AND THAT WAS A BUNCH OF DIFFERENT, UH, UH, UPDATES, IF YOU'LL REMEMBER.
UM, EVERYTHING WAS APPROVED BY CITY COUNCIL EXCEPT FOR ANYTHING HAVING TO DO WITH SHIPPING CONTAINERS.
NOW WITH THE CAVEAT THAT WE DID ASK THAT THEY APPROVE THE DEFINITION SO WE COULD HAVE THAT IN THERE.

UM, WE DID HAVE A PUBLIC MEETING LAST WEEK.
WE HAVE GOTTEN DIRECTION FROM CITY COUNCIL TO GO AHEAD AND UPDATE OUR FEES.
OUR FEES HAVE NOT BEEN UPDATED SINCE 2019.
AND AGAIN, THIS DOESN'T REALLY AFFECT PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION EXCEPT THAT YOU MAY GET ASKED THE QUESTION FROM SOMEBODY IN THE PUBLIC.
SO IT WON'T COME TO YOU FOR APPROVAL BECAUSE IT'S JUST PART OF CITY CODE.
IT'S NOT PART OF THE ODC, BUT WE HAVE NOT UPDATED THE PERMIT FEES THEMSELVES SINCE 2019.
WE DID UPDATE THE, UM, DEVELOPMENT FEES.
SO FEES FOR LIKE APPLICATIONS THAT COME TO YOU GUYS.
UM, THOSE WERE UPDATED JUST ABOUT A YEAR AGO, BUT WHAT WE'RE TRYING TO GET TO IS AN 80% COST RECOVERY OF WHAT IT COSTS TO PROVIDE THAT SERVICE TO THE PUBLIC.
AND RIGHT NOW WE'RE AT MAYBE 35 TO 40%, UM, ROUGHLY.
AND SO WE, OVER THE NEXT FIVE YEARS, WE'D LIKE TO GET CLOSER TO AN 80% COST RECOVERY, UH, SO THAT THE FEES ARE PAYING FOR THE SERVICES THAT WE'RE PROVIDING, UH, A LITTLE BIT BETTER.
AND SO THAT WOULD BE, UM, INCREMENTAL OVER THE NEXT FIVE YEARS.
AND SO ROUGHLY ABOUT A 12% INCREASE, UM, ROUGHLY EACH YEAR.
SO WE WILL BE BRINGING THAT CITY COUNCIL IN FEBRUARY, UH, TO HAVE THE, THE FIRST UPDATE, UH, APPROVED.
AND UM, THOSE WILL PROBABLY GO INTO EFFECT.
I'M HOPING FOR JUNE 1ST, MAYBE EVEN JULY 1ST, BUT PROBABLY JUNE 1ST IS WHAT WE'LL BE SHOOTING FOR.
UM, SO AGAIN, IF ANYONE GETS ASKED THAT YES, WE ARE INCREASING OUR FEES, UM, THE IDEA WAS WE, WITHOUT GETTING INTO TOO MUCH DETAIL, WE LOOKED AT WHAT IS COSTING US IN STAFF TIME AND RESOURCES.
WE LOOKED AT WHAT OTHER C UH, CITIES IN THE AREA ARE CHARGING AND WE WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE NOT THE HIGHEST AND WE'RE NOT THE LOWEST.
AND WE MANAGED TO, UH, AS AN AVERAGE WE MANAGED TO ACHIEVE THAT WE'RE RIGHT DEAD IN THE MIDDLE OF US AND FIVE OTHER CITIES.
SO, UM, SO THAT'S WHAT WILL BE GOING THURSDAY.
UM, I HAD ONE OTHER ITEM I WANTED TO BRING UP JUST AS A FOOD FOR THOUGHT KIND OF THING.
UM, THE CALVIN AND I HAVE BEEN TALKING IN, IN THE OFFICE ABOUT, UM, SO THE AMERICAN PLANNING ASSOCIATION HAS A NATIONAL CONFERENCE EVERY YEAR AND USUALLY THEY'RE IN FAR AWAY PLACES AND THEY COST A LOT OF MONEY TO GO TO.
AND SO WE ARE VERY CHOOSY ABOUT WHICH ONES WE GO TO AND WHO GOES.
UM, BUT THEY'RE OFTEN VERY INFORMATIVE AND VERY UH, UM, HELPFUL TO KIND OF SEE WHAT'S GOING ON IN OTHER COMMUNITIES AND SEE WHAT OTHER PROFESSIONALS ARE DOING.
UM, NOT THIS COMING YEAR, BUT IN APRIL OF 2027, MAYBE IT'S MAY, APRIL OR MAY OF 27, IT'S GOING TO BE IN HOUSTON FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MAYBE FOREVER.
I'M NOT SURE THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO HAVE IT IN 2020.
OF COURSE WE ALL KNOW WHAT, WHAT HAPPENED 2020, EVERYTHING GOT CANCELED.
SO, UM, THIS IS BRINGING IT BACK AROUND.
UH, AND I WANT EVERYONE TO KIND OF THINK ABOUT IF YOU HAVE AN INTEREST IN, I WOULD LIKE TO SEND AT LEAST A COUPLE MEMBERS OF THE PLANNING COMMISSION TO THAT, UH, THAT CONFERENCE.
AND AGAIN, WE DON'T NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THIS FOR ANOTHER YEAR OR SO, BUT I JUST WANT THOSE OF YOU ON THE, ON THE COMMISSION TO KIND OF START THINKING ABOUT THAT, WHETHER, UM, IT'S A FOUR DAY CONFERENCE.
SO THE COMMITMENT IS FOUR DAYS.
IT'S NOT CHEAP TO SEND PEOPLE.
SO WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT IF WE DO SEND PEOPLE THAT THEY GO TO IT AND THAT THEY'RE GETTING SOMETHING OUT OF IT.
AND I'M NOT GONNA REQUIRE A BOOK REPORT OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT,
SO, UM, AGAIN, WE HAVE A LOT OF TIME TO THINK ABOUT THAT, BUT I, I ALSO, I WANT TO GET A, AN IDEA OF WHO WOULD BE INTERESTED SO THAT I CAN BUDGET FOR THAT FOR NEXT YEAR.

UM, I, I THINK HOUSTON WILL PROBABLY BE MORE THAN THAT SO THEY NEED TO BE PREPARED FOR THAT.
I THINK THE MOST I'VE EVER SEEN AT ONE OF THOSE IS ABOUT 8,000.
UM, BUT IT JUST DEPENDS ON THE CITY.
I THINK HOUSTON WILL, BECAUSE IF IT'S NEVER BEEN IN HOUSTON, I THINK IT'LL BE A POPULAR ONE.
