AND, UM, THE CONTRACT IS ANYTHING AFTER OCTOBER 1ST OF THIS YEAR OR SEPTEMBER 1ST OF THIS YEAR, IT FALLS UNDER THAT NEW LAW ONE.
AND SO IT BEHOOVED ME TO HAVE CON CONVERSATIONS AROUND THAT, EVEN THOUGH THAT'S NOT NECESSARILY WHAT THE DRIVING FACTOR OF MY CONVERSATION WAS WITH THE CITY COUNCIL WHEN I WAS RENEGOTIATING MY CONTRACT.
UM, BUT IT WAS A TALKING POINT.
ONE OF THE THINGS THAT I SEE WITH THE STATE IS THAT, YOU KNOW, NEW REVENUE RATE WILL BE THE DRIVING FACTOR AND IT IS ONE OF THE SPECIAL SESSION DRIVING PIECES THAT THEY'RE LOOKING AT RIGHT NOW.
IF NO NEW REVENUE RATE GOES INTO PLAY AS THE STANDARD FOR CITIES GOING FORWARD, IT'S GONNA BE CHALLENGING.
IT'S GONNA BE EXTREMELY CHALLENGING FOR ALL CITIES, PERIOD.
OUR VALUES CAME IN HIGH FOR THIS YEAR, AND IF Y'ALL HAVE BEEN PAYING ATTENTION TO THE BUDGET MEETINGS FROM THE CITY COUNCIL, ONE OF THE THINGS THAT THEY SAID IN ORDER TO PASS THE GEO BOND, WE HAVE TO GO TO A NO NEW REVENUE RATE.
WELL, HIGH VALUES TYPICALLY ARE A VERY GOOD THING, RIGHT? THEY ARE.
EXCEPT WHEN YOU'RE BUILT LIKE BAYTOWN, IF YOU'RE BUILT LIKE BAYTOWN AND RELY HEAVILY ON IDAS, THE IDA OF A HIGH VALUE AND A NO NEW REVENUE GRADE WORKS AGAINST YOU.
SO OUR VALUES CAME IN ROUGHLY, UH, 80 TO A HUNDRED MILLION HIGHER IN VALUE OVER WHAT THE PRELIMINARY, UH, VALUES WERE.
THAT CAME TO US BACK IN APRIL.
AND IF YOU TAKE 80 MILLION OR A HUNDRED MILLION ON YOUR CALCULATOR RIGHT NOW AND TIME THAT BY THIS TAX RATE, UM, AND THEN DIVIDE THAT BY THE, THE, THE SAME 70 OF THE TAX RATE, IT ROUGHLY EQUATES 1 CENT EQUALS $370,000, 1 CENT EQUALS $370,000.
