WHY DO YOU HAVE TO GO OUTSIDE AND HIRE ANOTHER ATTORNEY? HIS FEE WAS, UH, I LOOKED AT THE FEES FOR THE PROPERTY TAXES THAT HE COLLECTED, UH, IN JANUARY, I BELIEVE IT WAS, WHERE HE COLLECTED 1,000,003. THE COST OF DOING THOSE COLLECTIONS TO THE, UH, WAS NOT TO THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, BUT TO THE, UH, UH, PUBLIC OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN WAS OVER $900,000 THAT THEY HAD TO PAY ON DELINQUENT TAXES FOR, FOR, FOR THEM TO BE COLLECTED. THAT'S A LOT OF MONEY FOR PEOPLE THAT ARE BEHIND WITH THEIR TAXES ALREADY TO HAVE TO CARRY THAT BURDEN. I NOTICED IN THE LETTERS THAT HE SENT OUT, THERE WAS NOT ONE WORD INFORMING THE PUBLIC THAT THEY HAD A RIGHT, NOT A PRIVILEGE, BUT A RIGHT TO REQUEST A PAYOUT ON THEIR BACK TAXES UP TO FIVE YEARS, IF I'M CORRECT. SO ALL IT WAS A DEMAND LETTER. IF WE'RE, IF WE'RE NOT GOING TO PAY, WE'RE GONNA SEND A CONSTABLE OUT AND SERVE YOU AND SELL YOUR HOUSE. IT'S JUST THAT SIMPLE. AND I THINK THAT THAT IS VERY DESTRUCTIVE AND IT COULD FRIGHTEN SOME PEOPLE THAT ARE NOT INFORMED THAT THEY COULD LOSE THEIR HOUSE OVER A FEW THOUSAND DOLLARS IN TAXES. AND WHAT I RESENT IS THE FACT IS THAT HE COULD ENTER INTO AN AGREEMENT TO PAY THOSE TAXES THAT HE'S DELINQUENT WITHIN FIVE YEARS AND NOT HAVE IT BEING THREATENED TO TAKE HIS HOUSE AWAY, WHICH HE COULDN'T DO ANYWAY UNLESS HE FOUND A KNIT JUDGE FROM OUTER SPACE TO AGREE TO DO IT. SO THAT SHOULD BE INCLUDED. ANY LETTERS THAT YOU SENT OUT TO GIVE THE TAXPAYER AN OUT A WAY TO PAY US BACK TAXES. I WANT TO TELL YOU THAT THANK YOU TO YOUR LEADERSHIP AND ESPECIALLY THE LEADERSHIP IN PARKS AND REC. WE HAVE THE PREMIER AREAS THAT IN THIS, I WOULD SAY IN THE STATE, I, I WOULD COMPETE OR BAYTOWN WITH THE STATE BECAUSE, YOU KNOW, I GET ON THAT TRAIL A LOT AND YOU SEE EVERYTHING AND ANYTHING ON THAT TRAIL, THE PARKS, JENKINS PARK, WHAT'S HAPPENING OUT THERE, WHAT'S HAPPENING AT ROSELAND, WE HAVE SOMETHING REALLY SPECIAL AND, AND, AND, AND I WANNA INVITE YOU TO GO TO OTHER COMMUNITIES AND SEE WHAT THEY HAVE COMPARED TO US CITIES THAT ARE BIGGER. I FEEL THAT OUR PARKS AND REC DEPARTMENT REALLY PUTS EFFORT IN MAKING SURE THAT THE, THE CITIZENS OF OUR CITY HAVE SOMEWHERE TO GO AND HAVE A GOOD TIME. YOU KNOW, AND YOU, OUR CITY'S BEEN STRUGGLING A LITTLE BIT WITH THE, WITH SHOPPING AND HAVING, UM, PLACES TO GO BUY THINGS AND THINK, BUT THAT DOESN'T MEAN ANYTHING BECAUSE YOU DON'T HAVE TO LEAVE TOWN TO HAVE A GOOD TIME. AND, AND I REALLY DO BELIEVE IT'S BECAUSE OF THE LEADERSHIP AND THE VISION OF THE PARKS AND REC DEPARTMENT THROUGH CLIFF AND HIS STAFF AND YOU GUYS MAKING SURE THAT THEY'RE SUPPORTED AND MAKING SURE THAT THEY FEEL THAT THEY CAN GO OUT AND DO THINGS THAT SOMETIMES TAKES A LITTLE GUTS, RIGHT? AND THROUGHOUT THE YEARS. SO I, I WANT TO THANK Y'ALL FOR THAT. I WANT TO THANK CLIFF AND HIS STAFF FOR THAT. BUT ONE THING THAT I DO REALLY WANT TO, UM, BRING UP ON, ON THIS BOOK IS ON EVERY PAGE, YOU, YOU, THERE'S FIVE THINGS THAT THEY'RE, THEY'RE CONSIDERING CORE VALUES, IT'S CARING, INNOVATION, STEWARDSHIP, LEADERSHIP, AND COLLABORATION. WHICH I THINK THERE'S FIVE ON THERE FOR YOU TO, TO LOOK AT AND CONSIDER [00:35:01] THE FACT THAT THE, THE STAFF AT PARKS AND REC HAVE GONE OUT AND MADE SURE THAT THEY'RE DOING THE BEST TO MAXIMIZE THE OPPORTUNITY FOR THE PEOPLE IN BAYTOWN AND PEOPLE AROUND TO COME IN. YOU KNOW, WE JUST TALKED A LITTLE BIT ABOUT TAXES. WE WANT PEOPLE HERE, NOT ONLY PEOPLE IN BAYTOWN TO HAVE A GOOD TIME. WE WANT PEOPLE COMING INTO BAYTOWN TO HAVE A GOOD TIME, WHETHER IT'S AT THE NATURE CENTER, WHETHER IT'S THROUGH THE SOFTBALL TOURNAMENTS, PIRATE BAY, UH, CLUB. SO COVE, WE WANT PEOPLE TO COME HERE AND SPEND MONEY, RIGHT? SO, UM, YOU KNOW, I INVITE YOU TO LOOK AT THIS. YOU SAW WHAT'S HAPPENING ON THE THIRD AND 4TH OF JULY. WE'VE SEEN LOTS OF IMPROVEMENTS WITH THE BUDGET THAT THEY HAVE BEEN CURRENTLY GIVEN. UH, WE'VE SEEN MORE PARTICIPATION IN FROM THE PUBLIC, FROM THE COMMUNITY WHEN IT COMES. THESE ARE THINGS THAT WE ASK FOR FOR OUR HEADLINERS. WE'VE SEEN PEOPLE, UH, LEANNE RIMES FOR INSTANCE, AND SIGNO. UH, THAT'S A REFLECTION OF WHAT THE COMMUNITY IS FEELING. AND I THINK THAT, UH, PARKS AND RECS SHOULD BE ABLE TO CONTINUE TO HAVE THAT CAPACITY TO LOOK FOR COMMUNITY INPUT, TO CONTINUE TO HAVE THE CAPACITY TO GROW, UH, THESE EVENTS. AND THAT WHEN BUDGET WEEK COMES UP, THAT WE TAKE A STRONG LOOK AT THIS. UH, AS A MUSIC PROMOTER, AS SOMEONE WHO'S IN THE INDUSTRY, I'M WELL AWARE OF WHAT IT TAKES TO GET THE TYPE OF ARTISTS THAT'LL BLOW THE TOP OFF.
