SO YOU'D LIKE TO RECOGNIZE OUR JANUARY YEARS OF SERVICE EMPLOYEE DENISE SWAIN, LEGAL ASSISTANT, TWO WITH LEGAL HELENA CARILLO, DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SPECIALIST WITH POLICE KENON CRUZ, FIRE EQUIPMENT OPERATOR WITH FIRE LEO SMITH, FIREFIGHTER WITH FIRE, BLANCA RUBIO, FIELD SUPERVISOR WITH PUBLIC WORKS AND ENGINEERING, OLIVO MADANO, FIELD SUPERVISOR WITH PUBLIC WORKS AND ENGINEERING.

MICHAEL WOOSTER, FIRE EQUIPMENT OPERATOR WITH A FIRE.

MIKE WOOSTER, A NATIVE BAYTON IN 1986.

STERLING HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATE, JOINED THE BAYTOWN FIRE DEPARTMENT IN JANUARY, 1993.

MIKE IS A US ARMY VETERAN WHO SERVED WITH THE 82ND AIRBORNE ACHIEVING THE RANK OF SERGEANT.

DURING HIS SERVICE WITH THE ARMY, HE RECEIVED THE GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, AS WELL AS THE ARMY ACHIEVEMENT MEDAL.

MIKE ALSO SERVED IN THE US COAST GUARD RESERVE AT THE MARINE SAFETY OFFICE IN GALVESTON.

IN THE MANY YEARS THAT MIKE HAS WORKED FOR THE BAYTOWN FIRE DEPARTMENT, HE HAS RECEIVED SEVERAL COMMENDATIONS, INCLUDING BEING PART OF A TEAM THAT ASSISTED SIX VICTIMS INVOLVED IN AN AUTOMOBILE ACCIDENT WHERE ONE PERSON WAS TRAPPED IN A CAR THAT WAS ON FIRE.

MIKE IS CERTIFIED THROUGH THE TEXAS COMMISSION ON FIRE PROTECTION AS AN ADVANCED FIREFIGHTER, MARINE FIREFIGHTER AND FIRE INSTRUCTOR ONE, AND IS ALSO A CERTIFIED EMT BASIC THROUGH THE TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH.

MIKE HAS BEEN INSTRUMENTAL IN THE DEVELOPMENT AND DEPLOYMENT OF BAY TOWN'S HIGH WATER RESCUE PROGRAM.

DURING THE FLOOD OF OCTOBER, 1994, MIKE RESCUED SEVERAL VICTIMS WITH THE HIGH WATER RESCUE TRUCK.

AND DURING TROPICAL STORM, ALLISON, IN JUNE OF 2001, HE WAS SENT TO DE SANTO CITY BECAUSE OF THEIR EXTENSIVE FLOODING.

DURING THE TWO DAYS OF OPERATIONS, OVER 1000 PERSONS WERE RESCUED DUE IN LARGE PART TO MIKE'S COURAGE AND SKILL, AND HE CONTINUED HIS DISTINGUISHED SERVICE TO OUR COMMUNITY.

DURING THE FLOODS

OF HURRICANE HARVEY, MIKE VOLUNTEERS MANY HOURS OF HIS OWN TIME AND EFFORTS TO HELP OTHERS.

HE HAS HELPED IN MISSING PERSON SEARCHES AND ALSO PROVIDED SECURITY SUPPORT FOR MARDI GRAS AT GALVESTON.

MIKE HAS VOLUNTEERED FOR SEVERAL YEARS WITH THE WINGS OVER HOUSTON AIR SHOW, AND HAS VOLUNTEERED HIS TIME TO ASSIST LOCAL CHURCHES AND OTHER NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS WITH THEIR FESTIVALS.

HE WAS ALWAYS EAGER TO HELP OUT DURING THE CITY'S 4TH OF JULY EVENT, SETTING UP THE FIELD KITCHEN TO MAKE SURE CITY STAFF WERE ABLE TO ENJOY A HOT MEAL.

IN HIS SPARE TIME, MIKE ENJOYS HUNTING AND FISHING.

THANK YOU, MIKE, FOR SERVING OUR COMMUNITY SO FAITHFULLY.

FOR THE LAST 30 YEARS, BRUCE FANTI, TELECOMMUNICATIONS SUPERVISOR WITH POLICE.

BRUCE BEGAN HIS CAREER WITH THE CITY IN JANUARY, 1993 AS A FIRE AND EMS DISPATCHER FOR THE FIRE DEPARTMENT.

THE FOLLOWING YEAR, THE POLICE FIRE AND EMMS DISPATCH CENTERS WERE COMBINED TO BECOME THE PUBLIC SAFETY COMMUNICATIONS DIVISION.

IN THAT SAME YEAR, BRUCE WAS NAMED TELECOMMUNICATOR OF THE YEAR BY GREATER HARRIS COUNTY 9 1 1.

IN 1996, BRUCE WAS PROMOTED TO COMMUNICATION SUPERVISOR, AND IN 2014, HE RECEIVED HIS TCO MASTER TELECOMMUNICATOR CERTIFICATION.

HE ALSO CURRENTLY HOLDS THE INTERNATIONAL ACADEMIES OF EMERGENCY DISPATCH CERTIFICATIONS AND EMERGENCY MEDICAL EMERGENCY FIRE, EMERGENCY POLICE DISPATCHER, AND HAS COMPLETED THE NATIONAL EMERGENCY NUMBER ASSOCIATION CENTER MANAGER CERTIFICATION PROGRAM.

BRUCE'S HOBBIES INCLUDE COOKING, WOODWORKING, TRAVELING, AND SPENDING TIME WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS.

HE'S BEEN A VOLUNTEER WITH THE HOUSTON LIVESTOCK SHOW AND RODEO FOR 19 YEARS, SERVING ON THE HOUSTON METRO GO TEXTING COMMITTEE.

BRUCE'S FAVORITE THING ABOUT WORKING FOR THE CITY IS THAT DURING HIS 30 YEARS OF WORKING HERE, HE'S MET SOME REALLY GOOD PEOPLE THAT HE CONSIDERS VERY GOOD FRIENDS.

SO MAYOR AND COUNCIL, WE'RE GONNA CONTINUE THIS RECOGNITION TRAINING GOING ON WITH OUR HUB PROGRAM.

IF YOU REMEMBER BACK IN JULY OF LAST YEAR, WE UNVEILED A VIDEO THAT WAS IN REGARDS TO THE HUB.

THE HUB IS OUR TRAINING PLATFORM.

IT STANDS FOR HUDDLE AT BAYTOWN, AND THERE'S A LOT OF DIFFERENT INITIATIVES AND TRAINING PROGRAMS WITHIN THIS PLATFORM.

SO WE JUST WANNA RECOGNIZE THE EMPLOYEES WHO TOOK THEIR TIME AND INVESTMENT TO GO THROUGH THESE PROGRAMS. AND YOU'LL SEE A MIXTURE OF GREEN BELT TRAINING, WHICH IS PERFORMANCE ENHANCEMENT PROCESS IMPROVEMENT TO ELIMINATE WASTE IN OUR PROCESSES IN THOSE IN A MANAGER SERIES WHERE INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE PEOPLE MANAGERS OR ARE GOING WANNA BE IN THE PROCESS OF MANAGING PEOPLE TO GET THE TRAINING AND SKILLS THEY NEED TO BETTER JUST BE THERE FOR OUR EMPLOYEES AND JUST GIVE THE SKILLS THAT THEY NEED TO HELP RETAIN AND GROW THE TALENT WITHIN OUR ORGANIZATION AND THE PROCESS THAT WE PROVIDE.

AND THEN YOU'LL ALSO SEE, LASTLY, WE WORKED WITH OUR FIRE DEPARTMENT IN PROVIDING THAT MANAGER TRAINING SERIES SPECIFICALLY FOR THAT GROUP AS WELL, WHICH WE'RE REALLY, REALLY PROUD OF.

BUT, UH, SO, UH, AFTER ALREADY SERVING FOR THREE DECADES IN THE PUBLIC SECTOR, UH, GLEN STARTED WITH THE CITY OF BAYTOWN IN 2011.

UM, AND WHICH HE WOULD.

AND, UH, SINCE THEN, HE HAS GUIDED HUNDREDS OF BUILDERS AND INSPECTORS THROUGH THE PRINCIPLES OF PROVIDING THE HIGHEST LEVEL OF SAFETY IN THE BUILDING ENVIRONMENT.

UM, GLEN'S THE GUY, YOU KNOW, YOU CAN COUNT ON TO BE THE FIRST ONE IN AND THE LAST ONE OUT, NO MATTER THE JOB.

UM, HE'S THE GUY WHO KNOWS THE ANSWER OR HE'LL FIND IT FOR YOU.

UH, HE'S THE ETERNAL OPTIMIST WHO'S NEVER HAD A BAD DAY AND NO DOG WILL EVER BITE.

UM, WE DIDN'T HAVE TO TEACH HIM CUSTOMER SERVICE.

UM, AS I MENTIONED, WE WANTED TO RECOGNIZE GLEN'S OUTSTANDING SERVICE.

UH, MOST RECENTLY AS THE CITY'S PRIMARY INSPECTOR FOR THE EXPANSION PROJECT AT THE HOUSTON METHODIST SAN JACINTO HOSPITAL CAMPUS, GLENN PERFORMED OVER 1500 INSPECTIONS, UH, TO ENSURE THE SAFETY AND COMPLIANCE OF THOSE OF THAT CONSTRUCTION.

SO TONIGHT WE'RE HONORED TO CELEBRATE GLEN AND HIS WORK ON THIS HALF BILLION DOLLAR HOSPITAL CONSTRUCTION PROJECT.

UM, I'M NOT SURE IF GLEN KNOWS THIS, BUT AS PART OF THESE EFFORTS, WE REALIZE THAT GLEN HAS REACHED A MAJOR MILESTONE.

UH, HE'S PERFORMED OVER 50,000 INSPECTIONS FOR THE CITY OF BAYTOWN THAT IS THE MOST EVER BY ONE INSPECTOR IN THE HISTORY OF THE CITY.

SO, UM, GLEN, CONGRATULATIONS AND, UH, KIND OF AS A TOKEN OF OUR CON OF OUR, UH, UH, GRATITUDE, WE'D LIKE TO PRESENT YOU WITH A, A SMALL TOKEN.

UH, I'VE WORKED WITH MULTIPLE LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES ACROSS MY CAREER.

I'VE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO BE EXPOSED TO NUMEROUS CANINE UNITS, AND NEVER IN MY CAREER HAVE I MET A MORE DEDICATED, MORE PROFESSIONAL AND MORE PROGRESSIVE CANINE UNIT THAN WHAT I SEE STANDING BEFORE ME.

UM, THEY HAVE DONE A REMARKABLE JOB, NOT ONLY IN TRAINING AND HOLDING EACH OTHER TO STANDARDS, BUT THEY HAVE ALSO DONE AN INCREDIBLE JOB OF PROTECTING AND SERVING OUR CITIZENS AND ENSURING THAT SOME OF THE WORST CRIMINALS HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO ESCAPE, UH, TO FURTHER TERRORIZE OR VICTIMIZE OUR CITIZENS.

AND THAT IS AN INCREDIBLY INVALUABLE SERVICE.

THEY ARE ABOUT TO RECEIVE THE CHIEF'S UNIT CITATION FOR THEIR EXCELLENCE AND VALUABLE SERVICE AND SUSTAINED

INTELLIGENCE SERVICE TO THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, AS WELL AS TO OUR POLICE DEPARTMENT.

ON SEPTEMBER 7TH, 2022 MEMBERS OF THE CANINE UNIT HELD THE FIRST EVER CANINE SEMINAR IN BAY TOWN'S.

HISTORY OFFICERS HAVE TALKED ABOUT THIS FOR YEARS, BUT WITH A MOTIVATED UNIT IN SUPPORTIVE ADMINISTRATION, THIS IDEA BECAME A REALITY.

OVER THE YEARS, THE CANINE UNIT HAS TRAVELED ALL AROUND THE COUNTRY, TRAINING AND COMPETING IN OTHER CLASSES AND SEMINARS WHERE, EXCUSE ME, WHERE THEY WERE QUICKLY, UH, WHERE THEY QUICKLY REALIZED WE SET AND RAISED THE BAR FOR THE CANINE INDUSTRY.

AND IN ADDITION TO THIS, I'D LIKE TO ADD IN MY HOME STATE OF ALABAMA.

THE BAYTOWN POLICE DEPARTMENT IS VERY WELL KNOWN, ESPECIALLY FOR THEIR SUCCESS OF THE COMPETITIONS IN DOTHAN, ALABAMA.

UM, THEY TAKE FIRST, SECOND, OR THIRD, OR SOMETIMES ALL THREE ON A REGULAR BASIS.

UM, SO THIS WAS NOT THE FIRST TIME I'D EVER HEARD OF THE BAYTOWN POLICE DEPARTMENT'S CANINE UNIT.

THE CANINE UNIT HAS RECEIVED COUNTLESS AWARDS AND RECOGNITION FOR THEIR HARD WORK AND TOP-NOTCH TRAINING.

THIS UNIT STRIVES AND PUSHES EACH OTHER DAY IN AND DAY OUT TO TRAIN AND GET BETTER, BUT THEY'VE ALSO REALIZED THAT THEY HAD MORE TO OFFER AND THAT WAS TO MAKE OTHER CANINE HANDLERS AND UNITS JUST AS GOOD AS THE BAYTOWN POLICE DEPARTMENTS.

THIS THREE DAY COURSE WAS PLANNED OUT OVER SEVERAL MONTHS, BUT TOOK ALL HANDS ON DECK TO ENSURE THAT IT WAS SUCCESSFUL.

CORPORAL JEREMY STEVENS, CORPORAL HEATHER SHED, OFFICER JEFFREY SPENCER, OFFICER BARRY CALVERT, OFFICER DAVID LAMBERT, OFFICER CODY DODSON, OFFICER JOHN JONATHAN GRANT AND OFFICER HUNTER KINZIE SECURED TRAINING LOCATIONS AND PLANNED OUT TRAINING SCENARIOS, CONTACTED AND COORDINATED WITH BAYTOWN FIRE AND ANIMAL HOSPITALS, ENSURING BOTH CANINES AND THEIR HANDLERS WOULD BE ADEQUATELY TAKEN CARE OF IF NEEDED.

THIS SEMINAR HAD 20 5K NINE TEAMS FROM ALL AROUND THE SOUTHEAST TEXAS REGION ATTEND.

THE SEMINAR WENT OFF WITHOUT A HITCH, WHICH SHOWS THAT ATTENTION TO DETAIL AND DEDICATION AND PROFESSIONALISM THE TEAM PUT IN WEEKS AND MONTHS LEADING UP TO THIS EVENT, PAID OFF.

THE CRITIQUES FROM THE HANDLERS WHO ATTENDED THE CANINE SEMINAR.

CONFIRMED THIS WAS TOP-NOTCH TRAINING.

K NINE OFFICERS THANKED OUR HANDLERS AND OFFICERS AND THEY ASKED FOR MORE.

THEY ASKED FOR A FOUR TO FIVE DAY SEMINAR.

NEXT TIME THEY COMPLIMENTED THE PROFESSIONALISM, THE QUALITY OF TRAINING SCENARIOS, AND EACH OFFICER WHO PLANNED AND TAUGHT THEM THIS CAN NINE UNIT LEADS THE WAY IN ALL ASPECTS OF CANINE TRAINING AND CANINE POLICING.

AND THEY'RE A GO-TO FOR OTHER AGENCIES TO LEARN AND STRIVE TO BE.

AS YOU ALL KNOW, UH, I LOVE RECOGNIZING OUR OFFICERS FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING WORK AND EXCEPTIONAL ETHICS.

UM, THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE AWARDS TO PRESENT, UH, SO FAR IN THE YEAR AND THREE OR FOUR MONTHS THAT I'VE BEEN WITH THE CITY OF BAYTOWN.

I'VE GOT TO PRESENT QUITE A FEW OF THESE LIFESAVING AWARDS SO THAT I'M GONNA ASK THAT, UH, OFFICER RASH WOULD STEP UP HERE WITH ME.

OFFICER RASH IS ONE OF OUR MOST, UH, PROFESSIONAL, UH, AND COMMITTED OFFICERS THAT, THAT, THAT WE HAVE.

UH, HE DOES AN EXCEPTIONAL JOB OF WORKING WITH OUR CITIZENS AND OUR PUBLIC, AND HE IS VERY GOOD AT DEESCALATION TACTICS AND TECHNIQUES.

AND, UH, HE IS A, A LEADER IN OUR AGENCY.

AND ON APRIL 15TH, 2022, AT APPROXIMATELY 1737 HOURS, OFFICER RASH HAD JUST COMPLETED A TRANSPORT TO THE HARRIS COUNTY JAIL.

ON HIS WAY BACK INTO BAYTOWN, HE OBSERVED A NAKED MALE STANDING ON THE ENTRANCE WRAP TO INTERSTATE 10 IN THE CITY OF HOUSTON.

OFFICER ASH RECOGNIZED THE BEHAVIOR TO EITHER BE, UH, CONSISTENT WITH A PERSON WHO WAS IN A MENTAL HEALTH CRISIS OR UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF NARCOTICS.

OFFICER ASH RADIO DISPATCHED HIS LOCATION AND SUMMONED ASSISTANCE FROM THE HOUSTON POLICE DEPARTMENT.

OFFICER ASH ACTIVATED HIS EMERGENCY EQUIPMENT AND EXITED HIS PATROL UNIT AND BEGAN TO GIVE VERBAL COMMANDS FOR THE MALE TO STOP.

THE MALE BEGAN RUNNING ACROSS MAIN LANES OF EASTBOUND INTERSTATE 10.

DURING HEAVY RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC, HE FEARED THE MALE WAS GOING TO GET HIT BY A VEHICLE AND GET SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED.

OFFICER ASH ALSO FEEL FEARED THAT THE MALE WOULD CAUSE A MAJOR ACCIDENT WHERE INNOCENT CIVILIANS, UH, OR INNOCENT CITIZENS COULD BE INJURED OR WORSE.

KNOWING THAT HE WAS FAR OUTSIDE HIS JURISDICTION AND BACKUP WAS FAR AWAY, HE KNEW HE HAD TO ACT IMMEDIATELY TO PRESERVE THE LIFE AND SAFETY OF THIS PERSON, AS WELL AS THE CITIZENS WHO WERE IN THEIR VEHICLES.

OFFICER ASH CROSSED EASTBOUND.

I DIDN'T KNOW HE HAD SOUND EFFECTS.

OFFICER ASH CROSSED EASTBOUND, UH, INTERSTATE 10 ON FOOT TOWARDS THE MALE.

AS HE BEGAN TO CLIMB OVER THE CONCRETE BARRIER, WHICH SEPARATES EAST AND WESTBOUND LANES OF INTERSTATES.

THE MALE BEGAN TO RUN ACROSS TRAFFIC ON THE WESTBOUND LANES, NEARLY BEING STRUCK BY A VEHICLE PLACING HIMSELF IN AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION.

WITH THE SPEED OF THE MOVING TRAFFIC AT THIS TIME, OFFICER RAS GAVE CHASE AFTER THE MALE IN THE OUTSIDE LANE OF TRAFFIC, GIVING HIM VERBAL COMMANDS, ASKING HIM TO STOP AND TRYING TO CONVINCE HIM TO STOP.

THE MALE REFUSED, RECOGNIZING THE NEED FOR IMMEDIATE ACTION TO PREVENT THE MALE FROM RUNNING IN FRONT OF A MOVING VEHICLE BEING HEARD OR KILLED.

OFFICER RASH MADE THE QUICK DECISION TO USE HIS DEPARTMENT ISSUED TASER IT WAS EFFECTIVE, CAUSING THE MALE TO FALL TO THE GROUND, AND OFFICER RASH WAS ABLE TO HANDCUFF AND PULL THE MALE OUTTA THE MAIN LANES OF TRAVEL, SAVING HIS LIFE.

SHORTLY THEREAFTER, AN OFF-DUTY HOUSTON POLICE OFFICER STOPPED TO ASSIST AND HE CALLED FOR ADDITIONAL UNITS IN THE HOUSTON FIRE DEPARTMENT AND EMERGENCY SERVICES.

ON ARRIVAL OF THE HOUSTON UNITS, AN EVALUATION OF THE MAIL DETERMINED THAT AN EMERGENCY DETENTION ORDER WAS NECESSARY.

THE CITIZEN WAS TRANSPORTED TO A PLACE WHERE HE COULD GET HELP FOR HIS MENTAL HEALTH CRISIS.

OFFICER RASH DEMONSTRATED THE HIGHEST OF PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS.

HE BRAVELY PLACED THE SAFETY OF THE MALE AND THE MOTORIST ABOVE HIS OWN OFFICER.

R'S EFFORT TO SAVE A HUMAN LIFE BRINGS GREAT CREDIT UPON HIMSELF, THE BAYTOWN POLICE DEPARTMENT, AND EARNED THE HIGHEST TRADITIONS OF LAW ENFORCEMENT SERVICE.

AND BECAUSE OF THAT, IN YOUR ACTIONS ON THAT DAY, I'M SORRY, I'M TRYING TO FIND YOUR CERTIFICATE.

I THINK I'VE GONE OFF WITHOUT IT.

BAYTOWN IS ALSO RECOGNIZED FOR BEING MADE FAMOUS IN 1908 WHEN THE GOOSE CREEK OIL FIELD BECAME THE FIRST OFFSHORE DRILLING OPERATION IN TEXAS AND CONTRIBUTED TO THE VITAL PRODUCTS DURING WORLD WAR II.

BAYTOWN WAS ONCE HOME TO FAMOUS SETTLERS, INCLUDING DR.

AL SMITH, SAM HOUSTON, AND ANSON JONES.

BAYTOWN IS NOW KNOWN FOR INDUSTRY AND INNOVATION, WHILE WELCOMING RESIDENTS AND VISITORS TO THE FRED HARTMAN BRIDGE, THE REPUBLIC OF TEXAS PLAZA, AND THE BAYTOWN SCULPTURE TRAIL.

IN ADDITION TO MANY OTHER LOCATIONS THROUGHOUT OUR CITY, THE CITY OF BAYTOWN IS, IS POISED TO EXPERIENCE, UH, TREMENDOUS ECONOMIC GROWTH AND PROSPERITY IN 2023 AND BEYOND.

UM, AND TO KNOW THAT WE CAN WORK TOGETHER WHEN IT'S AN UNPLANNED REAL WORLD EVENT LIKE THAT, THAT TOOK PLACE, UH, EVERYTHING CAME TOGETHER WELL.

THE MAIN THING WAS THERE WAS NO LOSS OF LIFE.

THERE WAS NO SERIOUS INJURIES.

AND, AND CERTAINLY, UH, EVERYONE WAS ABLE TO GO AND, AND RECOVER.

SO, UH, PART OF THE ASSESSMENT, OUR INITIAL ASSESSMENT WAS TO TRY TO DO IT IN-HOUSE FOR THIS DEVELOPMENT OF THE PROPERTY AND ALSO TO ACCOMPLISH, UH, THE DEVELOPMENT OF A CHAMPIONSHIP LEVEL GOLF COURSE, UM, THAT WE'RE REPLACING FOR EVERGREEN GOLF COURSE.

UH, THAT WAS OUR FORMER DISC GOLF COURSE, AND THAT WAS RANKED NUMBER THREE IN THE STATE WHEN WE, UH, HAD IT.

UM, A DONATION FROM EXXON ALLOWED US TO DO SOME PRELIMINARY EXPLORATORY DESIGN STUFF.

THEY DONATED $25,000, ALLOWED US TO, UH, GET AHEAD OF THE PROJECT AND, UH, PROPOSE DOING SOME CLEARING FOR THE AREA SO WE COULD ACTUALLY WALK THROUGH AND GET A BETTER LINE OF SIGHT AND ASSESSMENT OF THE PROPERTY.

AND AFTER CLEARING, UH, THAT AREA, UH, WE DECIDED IT WAS BEST TO HIRE ON OUR FORMER DESIGNER FOR EVERGREEN GOLF GOLF COURSE, WHICH WAS CHRIS VANDER GRIFF, UH, WHO DEVELOPED THE EVERGREEN COURSE.

AND THEN ALSO WE WANTED TO INCORPORATE, UH, KIMBERLY HORN AND BRING THEM IN.

I'M NOT SURE ABOUT, UH, ANYONE ELSE, BUT IF I LIVED DOWN THERE, I WOULDN'T WANNA SEE A, UH, A BIG BOX RETAIL OR SELF STORAGE OR, UH, YOU KNOW, WAREHOUSE AND THINGS LIKE THAT, THAT THAT COULD BE ALLOWED BY THE MIXED USE ZONE.

UM, SO WHAT DOES THAT LEAVE? THAT LEAVES A LOT OF OUR NEIGHBORHOOD RETAIL.

AGAIN, IT'S A TRUE MIXED USE TYPE, UM, UH, STRUCTURES AND USES TO, TO A CERTAIN SIZE, UH, MORE SORT OF NEIGHBORHOOD.

IT WOULD ALLOW FOR SOME OFFICES ON A SMALLER SCALE.

IT WOULD ALLOW FOR SOME RESIDENTIAL BUT NOT APARTMENTS.

SO THAT WAS ONE OF THE THINGS THAT CAME UP, UH, IN OUR CONVERSATIONS WAS, AND AND AFTER THAT WE KEPT HEARING, WELL, THE CITY TOLD US WE WEREN'T GONNA PUT ANY APARTMENTS THERE.

UM, WE WILL OFTEN GET BACKED INTO A CORNER WHEN ASKED FOR SMALLER REZONES, THREE ACRES, FIVE ACRES, 10 ACRES, AND AT THE TIME IT MAY SEEM LIKE A GOOD IDEA.

AND THEN WHEN OTHER THINGS START TO COME IN, WE GO, OKAY, THAT, THAT DOESN'T FIT THE VISION FOR THE, FOR THAT AREA.

UM, JUST TODAY THE GOVERNOR ISSU ISSUED A DISASTER DECLARATION, UH, WHICH IS, WHICH IS, UM, HELPFUL FOR RECOVERY EFFORTS, UH, FOR BAYTOWN AS WELL AS THIS SURROUNDING CITIES.

UH, WE HAD, UH, APPROXIMATELY 59 HOMES THAT WERE, HAD SOME SORT OF DAMAGE, UH, AROUND THE AREA WITH, UH, IN PARTICULAR ON WEAVER WOOD STREET, SHREK AND LAKEWOOD.

UM, AND IF I MISS ANYBODY OUT, IT'S NOT INTENTIONAL, IT'S JUST THOSE ARE THE ONES THAT WERE REPORTED AT THIS TIME.

UH, WE'D ALSO HAD A VALERO WITH THE CANOPY THAT TOPPLED OVER ALONG I 10 AND MAIN, UH, OUR GAS LEAK ON BAYWAY, UM, THAT, UH, WAS LET LOOSE UNTIL CENTERPOINT WAS ABLE TO RESOLVE THAT WITH CITY FACIL CITY FACILITIES AND EQUIPMENT.

NO MAJOR DAMAGE TO REPORT, WHICH IS, UM, WONDERFUL NEWS FOR THE CITY.

UH, WE DID HAVE MINOR DAMAGE AT THE PD SHOOTING RANGE, THE NATURE CENTER AND THE GREEN CENTER, UH, THAT WE WENT TO REPORT, UH, WE DID LOSE POWER ELSEWHERE.

UH, BUT, UH, NOTHING, UH, MAJOR TO, TO GO ON RIGHT NOW.

WE DID HAVE DEBRIS, UM, IN CERTAIN AREAS OF THE CITY THAT I WANT TO THANK OUR PUBLIC WORKS TEAM FOR REALLY STEPPING UP AND GOING OUT THERE AND PICKING UP.

WE ARE NOT ISSUING OUR DEBRIS CONTRACT DUE TO THE MILLION DOLLARS THAT THE CITY WOULD BE IMPLICATED TO PAY, UM, IN AN EFFORT TO SAVE THE CITY MONEY.

THE PUBLIC WORKS TEAM HAS GONE OUT THERE HELPING THE CITIZENS AND THE RESIDENTS THAT HAVE THAT HAVE BEEN IMPACTED.

AND, UH, RIGHT NOW THEY'VE DONE NUMEROUS ROLL OFFS IN HELPING THEM AND WORKING WITH HARRIS COUNTY AS WELL.

SO A BIG THANK YOU, UM, FOR SHELTER AND COMMUNITY RESOURCES.

UH, THE CITY CURRENTLY IS WORKING WITH THE, UH, WITH MULTIPLE VOLUNTEER, UH, RECOVERY EFFORTS, UH, OR ORGANIZATIONS.

AND, UH, OUR TEAMS ARE MEETING WITH THOSE RESIDENTS, PASSING OUT THE NUMBERS, MAKING DIRECT CONTACT WITH ANYBODY THAT'S IMPACTED TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY HAVE A PLACE TO STAY AND THAT THEIR LIFE NEEDS ARE BEING MET FOR THE TIME BEING.

THE HOUSE IS A TOTAL LOSS, BUT SHE IS SAFE.

THIS IS SIGNIFICANT IN THE WORK THAT THEY'RE DOING BECAUSE THIS, UH, IN THIS INVOLVES UP TO A 25% DECREASE ON YOUR FLOOD INSURANCE RATES FOR THOSE THAT HAVE IT.

SO THE WORK THAT THEY'RE DOING ARE HAVING A DIRECT IMPACT ON THE MONEY THAT THE OUR CITIZENS HAVE TO SPEND ON SOME OF THEIR INSURANCE NEEDS.

I ALSO WANNA HIGHLIGHT THE, WHAT THE PARKS ARE DOING RIGHT NOW.

THE FITNESS COURT IS BEING, UH, CONSTRUCTED RIGHT NOW.

IT LOOKS FANTASTIC, ALONG WITH THE PERFECT TRAIL SYSTEM.

THE LIGHTS WERE PUT UP AROUND HOLLOWAY PARK AND THEY TOO LOOK GREAT.

SO THANK YOU FOR KEEPING THOSE PROJECTS GOING AND, AND BRINGING THE VISION TO LIFE.
