AND SO HOW DO YOU BALANCE THAT OUT IN TERMS OF TRYING TO GET THE INFORMATION OUT, BUT AT THE SAME TIME, NOT, I THINK, I THINK THERE'S A LOT OF GOOD, UH, AGENCIES OUT THERE THAT ARE BIGGER, THAT HAVE THEIR OWN EMBEDDED, UH, UH, PSYCHOLOGISTS AND MAYBE EVEN, UH, SOME OF THE BIG AGENCIES HAVE SOME ALMOST LIKE KNOWLEDGE LABS KIND OF IN THEIR POLICE ACADEMIES AND TRAINING UNITS AND STUFF THAT, YOU KNOW, WE MIGHT BE ABLE TO REACH OUT TO 'EM AND SEE WHAT THEIR BEST PRACTICES ARE, WHATEVER LESSONS WE CAN LEARN.

BUT WE GOTTA BE OPEN MINDED.

SO THEY DECIDED NOT TO, TO HOST A COURSE, WE ARE GOING TO DO THAT.

AND THAT'S ONE OF THE GOALS THAT I SAID WE'RE GOING TO, UM, STAND UP A BASIC PEACE OFFICER'S COURSE.

MY GOAL IS A REALISTIC GOAL OF, UH, THREE YEARS TO MAKE SURE THAT WE WORK WITH T COLE, WE GET ALL OUR CURRICULUM, UH, WE GET THE PERSONNEL IN PLACE, BECAUSE RIGHT NOW WE DON'T HAVE ENOUGH PERSONNEL.

UH, BUT I'VE ASSIGNED LIEUTENANT MARK FREEMAN AS THE NEW COMMANDER OF THE POLICE ACADEMY, AND HE'S BEEN CHARGED WITH RESEARCHING, DEVELOPING A PLAN TO ESTABLISH OUR OWN BASIC PEACE OFFICER COURSE TO ENSURE THAT, UH, BAYTOWN PEACE OFFICERS ARE GIVEN QUALITY TRAINING, RECEIVE ALL LOCAL POLICY AND ORDINANCE TRAINING PRIOR TO GRADUATING, RECEIVE THEIR DRIVER'S TRAINING, THEIR FARMS TRAINING, AND EVERYTHING THAT THEY NEED, SO THAT THE DAY THAT THEY GRADUATE THE ACADEMY, THEY CAN HAVE TWO DAYS OFF.

AND THEN THEY CAN BEGIN THEIR FIELD TRAINING, REDUCING THE TIME THAT IT TAKES TO HIRE A POLICE OFFICER AND PUT THEM ON THE ROAD PROBABLY BY ABOUT, I'M, I'M THINKING SIX MONTHS.

WOULD YOU THINK THAT'S A, A REALISTIC IF, IF NOT EARLIER THAN THAT? SO, UM, UM, SO THAT, SO OUR DEADLINE IS, IS THREE YEARS.

UH, BUT WE ALSO WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY ARE TRAINED ACCORDING TO THE CULTURE THAT WE'RE ESTABLISHING NOW AND THE DIRECTION THAT WE'RE MOVING, AND THAT IT'S NOT TAINTED BY OTHER PERSONNEL IN AN EIGHT MONTH ACADEMY.

YOU DON'T HAVE SOME BIG NATIONAL ENTITY TELLING YOU THAT YOU'VE GOTTA FIT THEIR POLICY SUGGESTIONS INTO THE WAY THINGS ARE DONE AND THE, THE LAWS AND STUFF.
